Captain's Report : MK City at the Luton Tournament (Plate Winners)

It was an upbeat City that travelled to Luton for the debut tournament of the '1st' team. As Captain, I was delighted to see Ed wearing the City shirt, a Korfball talent we having been trying to secure for ages (months) and we welcome him with open arms into the team.

In the morning we moved the ball round well and looked like we knew what we were doing but finished the morning with mixed results which didn't do us justice...

MK City 1-2 Leicester 1

Highbury 2 2-5 MK City

Luton Hatters 6-1 MK City

MK City 3 -3 Kent University

Hidden in there was a great result against Highbury 2 but and there is no nice way to say it, we were in the bottom pool in the afternoon. On the bright side the afternoon results were better...

MK City 7-0 MK Roos

Highbury 2 1-1 MK City

MK City 4-1Bedford University

Leicester 2 0-5 MK City

We showed no compassion to our sister club Roos keeping them off the score sheet but were bemused to draw 1-1 with Highbury 2 having beaten them 5-2 in the morning. It would be mean of me to mention the only change was we fielded our fearless coach. Unbeaten in the afternoon we finished top of the group to win the Plate competition, MK City's first silverware!

I would love to provide some commentary on some of the 27 goals scored but it would be unfair to single anyone out (and I can't remember them). Anyone who has ever travelled with MK City will appreciate what an achievement 27 goals at a tournament is!

I must mention Beechey netted a cool 10 goals, was only 2 off Top Goal Scorer and Darren Gray, during the Leicester 2 game, literally took one (in the face) for the team.

Overall, we finished 6th out of 10, one of our finer tournament results. We used the day to establish our divisions and we are definitely improving in play, style and confidence!

Our Plate victory was celebrated with a curry in Stony where we were joined by Korfers from the MK City family, a great end to a great day.

As ever, thank you to Darren Gray for organising our entry and thank you to Joe for noting the results and goals scorers (so be wary of goals attributed to Joe)
